The Right, Religious Right, and David Brock The one time Clarence Thomas boosting, Hilary Hatin', and Anita Hill attacking right-wing liar who had a change of heart because he could not stand living in his self constructed religious rightwing closet is back attacking the rightwing hand that fed him with The Republican Noise Machine and a useful website. Ok, say that three times fast. Although, I have to say that almost any criticism of the right- wing regime is welcome. I mean, how often can you claim to have the Almighty on your side before Jesus pulls up and asks, "Hey! What's up with all this death, fire, and destruction shit! Dad and I didn't even approve the books of Revelations and Daniel!" I think that it is wrong for progressives to blame religion wholesale or all Christians for the problems created by Bush and his let's-see-how-high-the-price-of-gas-and-oil-can-really-get-war-machine-company. The form of Christianinty practiced by the pseudo-relgiious right relies less upon the Beatitudes and more on Moses' Ten Commandments. So the we-are-right-because-we-say-so (can someone call Pat Buchanon and tell him that the Right from the Beginning pun is really not that funny? Or right.) are more concerned with following orders and obeying divine law than practicing real compassion, love, and tolerance; it is fear and terror based. Most of the religious right appeals to a crisis mentality for those who wait for the rapture, second coming, apocalypse... whatever you want to call it. Crisis, disasters, war, genocide, and terror fuel the minds of the religious far right as they revel in their perceived victimization and hope for the end of the world. This explains the kneejerk support for Israel which is critical to the 'raptured coming'. All they need is violent redemption but I think Bush is working on that on some level. Anyway, before I digress even more, David Brock is back with a new book and that is good. How many people read Blinded by the Right or The Conscience of an Ex-Conservative? Given current events, apparently not enough. Maybe the correct question is how many people read it and acted on his deconstruction of the Richard Mellon Scaife-Washington Times-Fox News Republican perpetual PR machine. More importantly, he has continued to expose the right in many of its infestations and dangers as well as starting a research center that focuses upon the lies of the rightwing and religious right.
